OBT v1.1 - Enemies, Shields and Dark Magic


Hello! Did you miss me? Well, I'm back.

I'm pretty late in writing this devlog, as I released the update on Sunday.
So, first things first, we have two new enemies now!

Starting with:

Le Quad

Always with 1 HP, always moving in a straight line.

They must be very easy to deal with, right?

WRONG!

They never have more than 1 HP, sure.

They go straight for you like your everyday hexagon, sure.

BUT THEY COME IN FLOCKS!

The Quads know they're weak, so they compensate making coordinated attacks.

And if you think this is bad enough, I'll let you know that when you kill one of them, the others get a little faster.

Yeah, don't mess around with the Quads.


PS.: For your peace of mind, each group will always use their number of slots on the enemy counter.

For example, a flock of four quads is counted as four enemies.


Now, now, now. I know. It looks kinda bad, right?

Don't worry! It gets worse! :)

Pentagon, The Wizard

Many think it would be cool to be able to use magic..

The Pentagon KNOWS that being able to use magic is cool.

They also want to kill you. Though luck.

They can teleport.

They will teleport every time you hit them.

When they hit you, five Hexagons are summoned around you.

Well, I wouldn't want to be in your place.


Well, these are your new enemies.

They sure look though, right?

Well, how about we see what you have to help you out?

Le Shield

The shield is your ultimate defense.

You can change it's orbiting direction, putting it directly around

It orbits around you, killing enemies, disregarding their HP.

The only exception is with the Pentagon, this guy will survive with 1 HP if hit by a shield.

Also, a shield will be destroyed with the hit.

The shield is obtained by killing Quads

Kill a group of 3 or 4 quads and you'll gain a shield!

What more, the size of the group will determine how much HP the shield have.

Cool huh?

You can stack up to 3 shields.

May they guard you!


Yep, that's it. For now.

I plan to improve the shieds later, adding different types, each with their ups and downs.

I'm also thinking on new weapons to add.

What's more do we have

This update brings some small rebalancing and bug fixes:

Removed Fullscreen Setting for Android build
- Toggling the fullscreen on and off was making the game crash in some devices.
Fixed the charge indicator on the pause settings menu
- It was using the indicator of the main menu. Blue instead of green.
- I could have none of that.
- Green for the pause menu.
The Shotgun number of shots was upgraded from 40 to 50.
- This is a quite powerful weapon.
- I like it.
- People think it's trash though because of the number of bullets.
- I have agree with them. Even if manage to optimize the bullet usage, you'll never reach the pickup on upper waves with bullets remaining.
- Now you'll still not reach the pickup with bullets remaining, but it has some more bullets.
Changed the pickups system so that you'll always have two different weapons to chose from.
- People wanted to avoid the shotgun.
- It was impossible when the only option was the shotgun.
- I was asked to fix it. So I fixed it.
- I found a bug where the machinegun can be the only option available.
- So the problem persists.
- But it appears to be only with the machinegun that it happens.
- So problem solved since it's not the shotgun.
- PS: Problem not solved at all. It can happens with all the guns. That's what I get for not testing things once more after refactoring the code...
Created a "boss" system
- There are some waves when the enemies are shown for the first time.
- They will then be the last enemies to be instanced.
- The Triangle, for example, is the boss of the Third wave.
- And I found a bug where the Quads prevent the boss from appearing.
- So, well, it sure break the point, huh?

Well, that's it.

I planned to release this update sooner, but lately I just lacked the energy and time to work on it.
I also wanted to make another game, so I joined 3 game jams. I ended making nothing in the end...
I also stopped drawing my comic... It's been 4 months already...

Well, that's life I think. Some times we just end not doing what we decided to do...
Instead we work to gain money and for the remaining time we procrastinate the hell of it.
